TraceProduct.Info is a prototype for an in-store, retail system for displaying information on grocery product backgrounds at point-of-sale.
During checkout, an animated map parallels the usual price list to show the origins of each item. Accompanying graphs visualize the % of local products. Each receipt has a custom code so the map can be explored at home in terms of global statistics, or used to monitor changes in purchasing patterns over time.
The project aims to visualize the narratives behind the seemingly ubiquitous everyday objects that we interact with as consumers; focusing on the ways in which these products connect us to the larger world.
