Organizations' Focus:

All-night climate survey to engage participation – Northern Spark 2017

Visualizing participants' thoughts on climate change, developed as part of an all-night arts festival focused on climate chaos.

The project was so successful that there was a line of people waiting for 20min to respond to our visual survey.

Team included: Arlene Birt, Jack Becker, Nichole Goodwell, and Randy Walker. The project was supported by the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). Thanks to Domestic Data Streamers for input.

Even as the night was just beginning, participation was high.

Participants also left messages for others to see.

Each board had a question and an array of values to capture responses.

Participants were eager to vote on their feelings about climate change. The activity generated much discussion among participants and observers.

Throughout the evening, participants created a visualization that documented their collective feelings regarding climate chaos.

The tree was filled with messages regarding the issue.

After, the string was released for further data collection.

Participation was so high, the yarn looked like fabric by morning.

Resulting trash from the installation.

A snipped from each participant shows the age breakdown of the event.
